The MIcrobeS Doctoral School: a strategic framework for doctoral training in microbiology and infectious diseases at Université Paris Cité

The Microorganisms and Infection Doctoral School (MIcrobeS) is officially opening at Université Paris Cité for the 2026 academic year. The MIcrobeS Doctoral School is led by Isabelle Martin-Verstraete, Professor of Microbiology at the Faculty of Science, and Yazdan Yazdanpanah, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases at the Faculty of Health. This doctoral programme, at the heart of contemporary scientific and public health issues, aims to train, in the coming years, a new generation of scientists capable of addressing the major challenges posed by infectious diseases through a continuum of research ranging from fundamental approaches to clinical applications and public health, as well as ‘One Health’ issues. This initiative forms part of a strategic partnership between Université Paris Cité and the Pasteur Institute in Paris, as well as a dynamic ecosystem centred on major issues relating to microorganisms and infections, in collaboration with the 1H-EID and AntiRes Graduate Schools, the Microb’UP Institute and the Microb’Ex Inidex.

The ED MIcrobeS is organised around three main scientific areas, which will foster exchanges between scientific communities working on complementary issues:

 

  • Microbial biology, dedicated to understanding the fundamental mechanisms of bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites and other microorganisms, from their diversity to their ability to adapt
  • Host–microorganism interactions, which explores the relationships between infectious agents, microbiomes, immune systems and mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance
  • Infectious diseases and global health, dedicated to innovative approaches in epidemiology, diagnosis, prevention and treatment from an integrated public health perspective
