Actions
The MICROB’EX project aims to contribute to the dynamism and strengthening of the organisational structure of microbiology research at Université Paris Cité. By bringing together expertise and fostering innovation and collaboration, it aims to promote scientific excellence, whilst raising public awareness of the challenges and advances in the discipline, so as to make it accessible to all and enable everyone to engage with the issues at stake.

Collaborative Project Calls
Outreach activities
Concretely, we aim to :
- Offer opportunities for sharing scientific knowledge and expertise within the Microb’UP’UP/MICROB’EX scientific network
- Foster the emergence of interdisciplinary partnerships within the MICROB’EX research network, bringing together units from Université Paris Cité and the Institut Pasteur
- Support projects with high potential for valorization and communication
- Encourage the emergence of new research consortia and start-ups
- Support the career development of early-career researchers within the network
- Increase the impact of our research at the national and international levels
These actions are part of a scientific project structured around four major axes:
- Promote an integrative vision of the balance between microbes and environments
- Study the disruptions that break these balances
- Develop strategies to prevent or manage these imbalances
- Promote a better understanding of the microbial world among the general public
How ?
Symposiums and Webinars
We organize two annual scientific symposiums open to the entire MICROB’UP community, as well as regular webinars open to everyone. These events promote knowledge exchange within the network and increase our visibility beyond Université Paris Cité.

Calls for Project
Each year, we launch a call for projects to support ambitious collaborative initiatives within the MICROB’EX network. We offer various types of support: seed grants for collaborative projects, co-supervised PhD fellowships, funding to support the recruitment of young researchers (CRCN/MCF…), and grants for structuring collective projects. Our goal is to stimulate interdisciplinary research, encourage collaboration within the MICROB’EX network, and support early-career researchers to strengthen the impact of our work.
In 2025, we funded:
- 4 seed grants for collaborative projects, each worth €40,000
- 2 co-supervised PhD fellowships
The 2026 call for projects is currently open.
Science dissemination activities
We are committed to communication and outreach actions aimed at the general public, making microbiology accessible and engaging for everyone. Our ambition? To help everyone better understand microbiology, take ownership of it, and see it as a field that mobilizes society and drives concrete actions for and with the public.
To achieve this, we work with a collective of volunteers from the Microb’UP network, including students, postdocs, engineers, and researchers, united by the belief that science should leave the lab and engage with society. Driven by the urgency to fight misinformation, spark curiosity (especially among young people), and restore trust between citizens and scientists, we hope our actions will foster a two-way exchange between researchers and the public.
Through various formats (games, workshops, lectures, roundtables…), we aim to explore with the public topics such as microbial diversity on our planet, the diseases some microbes cause, their roles in ecosystems, innovative applications, and the diversity of careers in microbiology.
